Ingredients:

3 cups Rolled Oats or Oats Grains

1 cup Ghee or Cooking Oil

1 teaspoon Ghee if cooking oil is used

1 cup Sugar (powdered)

1 small teaspoon Cardamom (Elaichi) Powder

Some crushed and grind Cashews and Almonds

Preparation:

Dry roast the oats in a dry pan and dry grind it to a fine flour texture. Keep it aside.

Take a large cooking pan, and heat ghee or cooking oil. Pour one or two spoonful of oats to the ghee or oil at a time while stirring constantly so that no lump is formed. Cook the Oats at medium flame and stir frequently till it becomes light brown and smells good. Put off the flame.

Note:

  • As the mixture becomes cool, it will be cooked completely and will become dark brown. Therefore, it is better to put off flame till it is light brown.
  • If you are using cooking oil instead of ghee for your dessert, then to bring a good flavor, you can add 1 teaspoon of ghee and mix it well and cook till good smell comes.

When the mixture is completely cooled, mix cardamom powder into it.

Now, add little sugar while mixing in the cooked oats till you finished adding it all. Then, add crushed and grind cashews and almonds to the mixture.

Take a dry flat utensil or container. Grease the inside of the container to the edge with cooking oil or ghee.

Finally, pour all the mixture into the greased container slowly and let it settle down smoothly. Put the container into the refrigerator for about half an hour to set.

After half an hour, take out the container and cut into straight and make square-like Barfi with a sharp knife (greased).

Garnish the top with the remaining crushed almonds and cashews. All the Oats Barfi pieces are now ready to be taken out one by one into the serving plate or utensil to serve. Smells Good! Isn’t it so? One thing remains. Who’s going to taste this delicious Oats Barfi first? J

Tips and Variations:

  1. You can make Laddoos out of the Oats (sweetened) mixture, instead of making Barfi. For this, take small quantity of the Oats mixture and roll it with your hands to give it a round and smooth shape.
  2. You can garnish the top of the Oats Barfi or Laddoo with shredded or grated desiccated coconut or finely chopped pistachios.
